ATM has always been committed to improving infrastructure and in particular accessibility, with the aim of making public transport increasingly inclusive.
With this in mind, an application called "Barrier-Free Information,", which can also be used by people with visual impairments, has been created providing real-time status on the operation of lifts and stairlifts in the metro network, hence keeping customers up-to-date on the actual situation of the facilities.
The platform, which can also be consulted from the website www.atm.it or the Atm Milano App, is part of ATM's broader digital transformation plan with the aim of enhancing the travel experience for passengers.
Improving the transport network is a primary goal for ATM: to date, the metro is fully accessible for new generation lines such as Line 4 and Line 5, as well as Line 3.
On the other metro lines, the 1 and 2, which have a dated structure dating back to the 1960s and 1970s', work is gradually being done: for example, a major project was recently carried out involving the installation of 15 new-generation lifts in 6 stations.
ATM is also continuing to invest in the renewal of its fleet: the buses in the city are all low-floor, to allow easier and faster access for travellers, especially persons with reduced mobility, and there are plans to gradually add 80 new trams and 80 new fully accessible trolleybuses.
