MIBA opening conference (Milan Innovation Building Alliance)

According to official Istat statistics, more than 60% of Italian buildings are over 40 years old and almost 80% were built before 1990 using standards that no longer meet modern specifications for safety, efficiency, usability and digitisation. It is estimated that there are more than 900,000 elevators in operation in Italy, the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world, but almost a third of these are over 40 years old.
Therefore, it is clear that the existing building heritage in Italy needs to be renovated and improved. The adoption of new digital technologies allows a significant improvement in safety and usability, through continuous monitoring of functionality and efficiency throughout the life cycle of the installations.
Elevators contribute up to 5% of the total energy demand of the buildings in which they are installed, and the use of modern technology would allow a reduction of energy consumption of approximately 66%. Furthermore, the modernisation and improvement resulting from the implementation of digital technologies would allow for greater accessibility and opportunities for social inclusion.
GEE - GLOBAL ELEVATOR EXHIBITION is the new Fiera Milano event that will be held from 15 to 17 November at the Milan International Building Alliance featuring a full schedule of workshops for the industry operators focused on the review of the transformations taking place and the future of the sector.
The event programme revolves around three main topics:
- Vision and Market Trends
- Innovation and Digital Transformation
- Regulations and Quality Standards
With the involvement of leading national and international experts, representatives of the main trade associations and research agencies, the scheduled events will animate the debate on the challenges and opportunities that the current regulatory and technology sector offers to companies operating in the elevator segment.
The main topics that will be addressed during GEE 2023 are:
- VISION AND MARKET TRENDS: The future of vertical transport 2023-2033
- What are the new challenges of modernising the elevator fleet
- What is the industry's contribution to increasing the safety and accessibility of the buildings of the future
- What are the role and growth opportunities of the elevator industry in the Italian and global market?
- What is the impact of the European and Italian regulatory framework on the supply chain
- What are the new regulations and quality standards between innovation, safety, and sustainability
- What solutions are available to create more inclusive, safe, digital and sustainable 4.0 buildings
- What are the new technologies for remote connection in view of Building 4.0
- What are the solutions and future evolution scenarios in the field of integrated sensor technology and digitisation of systems
- What are the opportunities offered by NRP-related programmes and new incentives for energy efficiency in buildings
- What are the tools for the modernisation of the installed base, both in terms of energy efficiency, safety and barrier removal and in terms of digitisation of buildings
